We have collected this species several times under Eucalyptus at the Hilo Forest Preserve on Hawai`i. Although the Hawaiian specimens are very similar to those of S. atroviridis we have seen from the Great Smoky Mts. of North Carolina, the probably ectotrophic association with Eucalyptus in Hawai`i is unusual. A closer comparison with Australian Sarcodon taxa may reveal that the Hawaiian taxon is distinct from S. atroviridis .
