Leucocoprinus fragilissimus

(Berk. & Rav.) Pat.

This beautiful and ephemeral species is uncommonly collected in lawns on
Hawai`i and along grassy trails on Maui. When young, the pileus is bright yellow with
a yellowish brown disc, but the marginal areas fade to nearly white with maturation
and exposure. A color photo of the young yellow stage of this species may be found in
Weber & Smith, A Field Guide to Southern Mushrooms (1985).
