Commonly called the Smooth Parasol mushroom, or for some strange reason "Woman on Motorcycle", L. naucinus is frequently collected along roadsides and lawns at Koke`e State Park on Kaua`i, and in pastures on Mauna Kea, Hawai`i. It is a common lawn mushroom of the Northern Hemisphere and is reportedly edible and good; however, some people experience gastrointestinal upsets after ingestion and many poisoning cases in North America are attributable to this species. We caution against eating it. The large, broadly convex, glabrous, white pileus, free lamellae that are white throughout development, and a white stipe with a bulbous base and persistent annulus are diagnostic.
