Hygrocybe constrictospora , first described from Europe, is characterized by a
deep red to reddish orange, greasy but non-viscid pileus, orange adnate lamellae,
and a dry, red to reddish orange or yellow stipe. As the name indicates, many of
the basidiospores are constricted. In the Hawaiian Islands, H. constrictospora is
known at present only from native montane ohi`a-hapu`u forests on Hawai`i and
we consider it an indigenous species.
