This is one of the more common Suillus species under introduced pines on the
islands of Kaua`i and Hawai`i. It is the only Hawaiian species that has a persistent
gelatinous annulus. Suillus salmonicolor , also called Suillus subluteus (Pk.) Snell
in some publications, is an edible species but like other glutinous Suilli, probably not
choice. See Halling (Mycologia 75: 70-92. 1983) for a good description and commentary.
